KOMTAR - The landmark of Penang

Last weekend I went to Penang with a bunch of friends back from my boarding school and university years. We stayed in a 2-bedroom apartment at Batu Feringghi, which was really nice and cosy, at a bargain cost of RM 50! Yeay!

The thing that should never be missed when in Penang is of course the food! We had the pasembor, sotong bakar and laksa penang at Gurney Drive. It wasn't the best food but I guess the whole idea of eating under the stars at Gurney was really exciting. We also had some jeruk and cendol from Chowrasta Market, which was really cheap and tasty. For Nasi Kandar, we went to Kayu Nasi Kandar in the town centre, after close to one hour looking for Pelita Nasi Kandar, which is considered as one of the best in Penang. Tapi takpe la, lain kali makan kat Pelita Nasi Kandar kat Jln Ampang or Bangsar aje la...

We also went to Bukit Bendera a.k.a Penang Hill. The trip to the top of the hill was really scenic, and kinda thrilling coz the funicular train climb up the hill at 45 degress slope, and sometimes a lot steeper! I can't stop from thinking how would it be if the cable of the train snaps halfway on the way up, maybe it would feel like going down the steep hill into a water pit like in the log flume ride in Sunway Lagoon, except that there is no water pit, but a station crowded with tourists. Scary...

At the top of Penang Hill, we tried walking on the canopy walkway, which is actually a pedestrian suspension bridge from one tree to another tree, about 50 metres high above ground and about 100 metres in length. Definitely not for someone who is afraid of height, but it was such a feat and we were so proud to walk the whole length!

But the highlight of the Penang trip has to be the visit to Choong Fatt Tze Mansion. It's a really big and old mansion, with the trademark indigo exterior, and has won the best conservation project in Asia Pacific from UNESCO. The mansion used to be owned by one of the richest man in Asia, and was declared perfect by 116 Fengshui masters! Selalunya nak dapat perfect from only one fengshui master pun dah susah, ini 116. Hebat giler! Hmmm I love everything from the history, architecture, color and decorations of the mansion.
